CLA San Diego 2010 Annual Conference - Conference WebsiteMonday, April 19—Wednesday, April 21, 2010

These are times of unique challenge for ministry leaders. Economic uncertainties, the need to recruit and equip a new generation to fill a growing leadership deficit and other challenges face today's ministry leader. Courage and faith are essential. Wise and bold leadership is more critical now than ever.
In Deuteronomy 31, the remarkable leader, Moses, gathered the people of Israel so that he could pass the mantle of leadership on to Joshua. By this point, Moses had himself led the people through incredibly challenging times: the exodus from Egypt, the years of desert wandering andmthe challenge of guiding an entire people through an epic stage of transition. He understood the courage that was required of leaders. He also knew that his successor, Joshua, would face hismown unique challenges as he led the Israelites into the Promised Land. So he summoned Joshua in the presence of all Israel and urged him to be "strong and courageous" (v. 7), and told him, "The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged" (v. 8).
That message of courageous leadership in the midst of challenge is still central for leaders of Christian ministries today. That courage is rooted in faith in God's providential love and guidance. May we encourage one another on to that same bold courage in light of the challenges we face as leaders.
During CLA 2010 in San Diego we will together explore what it means to live as courageous leaders who walk by faith, and not by sight. Please join us!
