Stephen Oakley joined Compassion International as general counsel in October 2011. He became vice president of legal services in August 2012. In this role, he is responsible for overseeing all of Compassion’s domestic and international legal affairs. Compassion International is an international child development ministry based in Colorado Springs, operating in 26 countries around the world.
Oakley was born in Evanston, Illinois, in 1970. A life-long native of Chicago, Steve has a B.A. from the University of Illinois in history, a JD from the John Marshall Law School and a masters of ministry degree from the Moody Theological Seminary. He is admitted to practice law in Illinois, Wisconsin, North Carolina, and is pending in Colorado.
Oakley practiced in commercial litigation for the first six years of his career before transitioning into commercial transactions for the remainder of his twelve years in private practice. Upon graduating from Moody Seminary, he resigned as a partner from Hinshaw and Culbertson in Chicago to serve as vice president and general counsel of the Moody Bible Institute from 2009 through 2011.
